From Pennsylvania to California, the road is open to me

Our trusty travel van that was gifted to us in 2007 from friends in Dale, Texas.
We love you Emmett and Elizabeth.

I have been a traveler ever since I can recall my memories. I have traveled in thoughts, dreams, visions, and down some long dusty roads in my 57 years on this beautiful planet that God gave me for a temporary home. When I was very small, I would find some tedious task to occupy my physical body while my mind traveled to places either remembered from some time or place long ago or not seen yet. I was always wondering what was around that next bend in the road or where that line of railroad tracks would lead me. My physical traveling began with long walks through forest trails to see what mysteries awaited. I took long walks down some old country roads taking one turn then another just to see where I would end up. It was always exciting no matter which mode of travel I chose. Often, I would sit outside at night gazing at the stars just wondering what was out there and thinking to myself that I would go there someday, beyond our stars to explore. I started riding a bike when I was very young, about five or six years old. This mode of travel took me places faster. By age eleven, I began taking journeys that were miles long instead of blocks, on my trusty old bicycle. My parents had to tell me not to go further than a two hour ride to ensure that I could ride back home before dark. They also advised that I leave a bread crumb trail of sorts so they could find me in case I missed curfew.

These early traveling years expanded my desire to see the world as I reached adulthood. I didn't drive a car until I was thirty-four. There was no stopping me when my fast wheels finally rolled. My first road trip took me from Pennsylvania to Montana, just to see what was on the other side of the country. I found the Lewis and Clark Trail and followed its route through desolate hills and valleys and forests. My explorer heart ignited, I was determined to see every nook and cranny of this great nation. That has been my quest ever since that moment twenty-three years ago. I want to share some of those adventures with you, my family, my friends and future readers of this blog,  Rambling around America. Join me for a fantastic journey into the real things in life.
